Drill: Land It
Equipment needed: 1 Slammer pad & 1 Ring Per Line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice RUNNING by demonstrating their ability to run and jump over an obstacle, while also having to land in a specific area. This will challenge the students physically by requiring them to use their leg muscles to jump high and control their landing.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say words that sound like “go”, like “gopher” or “go-kart”, in order to keep the students engaged and enhance their auditory processing.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to run and jump over the pad, and land in the ring right behind it; they have to estimate the distance between the pad and the ring, and determine how much power is needed in order to get over the pad and into the ring. This works on their ability to process visual activities.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, you will need an instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up and face the pad which will be laid horizontal 6’ in front of them.
  • When the instructor says go the student must run and jump over the pad.
  • They are aiming to land in the ring that was place 1’-2’ behind the pad.
  • If they can stick the landing on round one you can move the ring back farther on round
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Take big steps as you run.
  • Don’t slow down before your jump.
  • Try your best not to fall.
Step 5
  • Continue so that each student has at least 2 turns.
