Skill: RUNNING
Drill: Freeze Ball
Equipment needed: Yoga Ball
Instructors needed: Multiple to Monitor
Description: The students will practice RUNNING by demonstrating their ability to run without crashing into others and being able to freeze when they get hit, this will help them physically and socially by working on their teamwork and stamina as they play the game.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The teams can be “Instructors vs. Students”, and the students can win by having at least one person in the game, and the instructors win by getting everyone out. The instructor can say “Who’s going to have better teamwork? The instructors or the students?” in order to motivate the students to have better teamwork than the instructors.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The students must be able to dodge the ball and tag their friends in. This works on their ability to do multiple things at one time, as they have to watch out for where the ball is, look for friends that need to be tagged in, and remembering to freeze when they get hit.
Step 1
Let the students spread out on the mat
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, you will need an instructor holding the foam noodle.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Students will run around on the mat trying to avoid the yoga ball.
  • If the ball hit them then they must freeze, they can unfreeze if they get tagged by a fellow ninja.
  • The students win the game if there is one person left unfrozen at the end of a minute and a half.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your eyes open to see your friends.
  • Don’t fall then you’re easier to tag.
  • Freeze if you get hit.
Step 5
  • Continue for at least 2 rounds.
