Drill: Hungry Hungry Ninjas
Equipment needed: Multiple dodgeballs 1 Big Container per line
Instructors needed: A few to monitor
Description: The students will practice RUNNING by being able t move quickly to pick up as many dodgeballs as they can, but they can only ever pick up one dodgeball at a time.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can give the two teams silly names, like “hamburgers vs. hot dogs”, in order to get the students motivated to win as a team.
ATTENTION CONTROL – The student must be able to focus on the activity at hand for a full thirty seconds, as if they do not pay attention, they might not realize it is their turn and slow the team down. In order to be a good teammate and friend, they have to focus on the activity for thirty seconds.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Spread the dodgeballs all over the middle of the mat.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The students will start on the outside of the mat with their line.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the 1st ninja will stand up and run and grab one dodgeball and bring it back to their container.
  • Then the next student will run and do the same thing, this will continue for 30 seconds.
  • At the end of time the team with the most dodgeballs wins.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Take big steps so you go faster.
  • Watch out for your friends you don’t want to crash.
  • Wait your turn only one person can go at a time.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2 turns.
