Equipment needed: 1 Kicking shield per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice RUNNING by being able to switch from kicking to running quickly, without losing their balance or falling as they do so.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say words that sound like “go” in order to trick the students, like “gopher” and “ghost”. This will further test their auditory processing, as they have to listen for the whole word and not just the sounds of the word.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The students must kick a kicking shield, and listen for the instructor to say “go”, so they can run down the mat. This works on their ability to follow verbal commands quickly, as they have to listen for the instructor to say “go” before they can start running.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The students will sit with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up and face the instructor.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the student will start to kick the kicking shield.
  • When the instructor says “GO” for the second time they will run down the mat and back to the instructor.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Try not to fall as you run.
  • Take big steps so that you can run faster.
  • Keep your eyes open so you know where to run.
Step 5
  • Continue each person has 2-3 turns.
