Description:
The students will work on their INSTINCT in this drill by developing the ability to evade and immediately counter attack to score a point.
Teaching SKILLZ: Intrinsic Motivation
encourage students to focus on improving their speed and timing for their own growth, emphasizing personal mastery rather than just “beating” the belt.
Brain SKILLZ: Speed of Processing
students must instantly register the incoming belt, evade, and then counterattack without hesitation, training their brain to process danger and react in split seconds.
Step 1
Divide the class into lines.
Step 2 – Setup the Drill
Each instructor will hold one belt per line.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
The first person in line will stand a few feet away from the instructor.
The instructor will then whip the belt at the student’s stomach (like whipping a towel).
The student will then evade straight back, then explode forward while reaching for the instructor’s shoulder with their rear hand.
If the instructor tags you with the belt, do that rep again.
In the next round, reach for the shoulder and punch to the side as if performing a blitz.
Step 4 – Takeaways
After you evade back, don’t take a lot of time to find the “right” opening.
Shoot straight forward to avoid running in a circle, which takes more time.
You should end the drill by running past the instructor.
