Drill: Step-Step-Kick-Kick
Equipment needed: One kicking pad per pair
Instructors needed: Multiple to Monitor
Description: The students will work on their STEPPING skills by taking two steps and then kicking a pad.
Step 1
Have your students and guardians line up on one side of the mat.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Give a quick review of how to kick: Hold your hands up, pick your foot off the ground and snap it out and back in, and bend your knee as much as you can on the snap.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The student will take two steps and then kick the pad held by the guardian.
  • As the student steps forward, the guardian will take two steps backwards.
  • Switch roles when you reach the end of the mat (optional).
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Encourage your student to only take two steps.
  • Encourage your student to kick properly.
  • Count for them as they step and kick.
Step 5
  • Continue as many times as you can until time is called (approximately 2-minutes).
