Drill: Over the Mountain
Equipment needed: 6 Cones & 3 Poles Per Line
Instructors needed: Multiple to Monitor
Description: The students will practice their STEPPING by being able to step over a bar without falling.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have each guardian sit with their child, set up 3 the poles on for each line set at the first or second height.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The students will step over the bar and punch 4 times.
  • The guardians will walk alongside their students helping them step over the bar when needed.
  • Challenge the students by raising the bar so they have to pick their foot up higher in order to step over.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Encourage students to lift their foot up high so they are able to step over the bar.
  • Cheer students on after they step without falling
  • Don’t rush the student as they try to step over, be patient and encourage them to do it by themselves.
Step 5
  • Continue as many times as you can before time is called.
