Skill: AWARENESS
Drill: Punch or Kick
Equipment needed: 4 small square pads per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice having good AWARENESS by demonstrating their ability to understand spatial awareness by hitting pads that are thrown at different levels with their hands and feet.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The 1st student in each line will stand up and face the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will have a small square pad in their hands.
  • They will either call out “high” and throw the pad in front of the student at about chest level.
  • Or the instructor will say “low” and throw a pad a knee level.
  • The student must punch the pad if high is call or front kick if low is called.
  • If the student likes a challenge, try not prompting them on where the pad is being thrown.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Have a good start position to strike the pad.
  • Keep your eyes on the pad the entire time.
  • Strike the pad fast so you don’t miss it.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns.
