Drill: Grab the Color
Equipment needed: 1 wavemaster/2 blocks per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice having good AWARENESS by demonstrating their ability to use their eyes to see the correct color and be able to quickly grab it. This will challenge them mentally by requiring them to cross the lateral plane while grabbing a block.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The 1st student in each line will stand up if front of the wavemaster.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor calls out a color then the student will quickly grab the correlating block.
  • They must remember to reach across their body when grabbing they can’t just reach straight forward.
  • They will do this 3 times on round one. On round 2 call out both blocks and the students should grab them in order.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Be fast when you’re grabbing the block.
  • Watch the pad, don’t knock over the wavemaster.
  • Keep your hands by your eyes when you start.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns.
