Skill-Building Drills – 7 Minutes

Around the Square:

The students will practice RUNNING by demonstrating their ability to run facing multiple different directions. This will challenge the students physically by requiring them to run forwards, backwards, and sideways as quickly as they can.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: TRICKERY – The instructor can say another word that sounds like “go” in order to trick the students, like “gopher” and “ghost”. This will further test their auditory processing, as they have to listen for the whole word and not just the sounds of the word.
  • Brain SKILLZ: DIVIDED ATTENTION – The students must be able to run in multiple directions while keeping their chest facing the same way. This works on their ability to do multiple things at one time, as they have to keep their chest and head facing one direction while running in another direction.

Ninja Dash:

The purpose of this drill is to teach good listening skills while reinforcing their ability to catch a ball at different distances.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: TRICKERY – The instructor can call out words that sound like the word “go” to try and trick the student.
  • Brain SKILLZ: AUDITORY PROCESSING – The student must listen for when the instructor says stop, and turn as fast as they can so they can catch the ball.
