Skill-Building Drills – 7 Minutes

Big Foot Jumps:

In this drill the students will build leg muscles as they jump across the floor using small square targets as their feet. This is a great drill for gross motor skill development too because it takes some skill to keep the pads on their feet.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: INTRINSIC MOTIVATION – The instructor can count how many jumps it takes the student to get to a certain point. On the second round, the instructor can see which student can make it to that same point in a smaller amount of jumps, and get stronger.
  • Brain SKILLZ: DIVIDED ATTENTION – The students must be able to jump as far as they can without letting the pads fall off their feet. This works on their ability to focus on multiple things at one time, as they have to focus on jumping while also making sure the pads stay on their feet.

Ninja Bowl:

The students will play a game of tag by rolling a large ball at their classmates. This will help the students build good hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and social skills.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: HEALTHY COMPETITION – For every student that a student hits, they will get one point. If the student hits over ten people, then the student is a winner.
  • Brain SKILLZ: VISUAL PROCESSING – The students must be able to roll the ball to hit moving targets. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see and participate in visual activities, as they have to judge how they need to roll the ball in order for it to hit their target.
