Drill: Escape
Equipment needed: 4 kicking shields per group.
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will work on their COURAGE by having to escape from four “bullies”. This will challenge student’s physical stage of development by being able to get out of the ring with four people trying to stop them.
Teaching SKILLZ:
Teaching SKILLZ: INTRINSIC MOTIVATION – The instructor can explain that if the student can escape in thirty seconds, then they will make their instructors proud. If they are able to escape in twenty seconds, then they will make their parents proud too. If they are able to escape in ten seconds, they will make themselves proud too.
Brain SKILLZ:
Brain SKILLZ: SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must be able to escape the ring before time runs out. This works on the ability to make the correct choices quickly, as they have to make quick decisions and spot openings quickly in order to escape in the time frame they are given.
Step 1
Divide your students into groups.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Give each group a ring.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • One student will be in the middle of the ring.
  • Four other students will surround the student in the middle. Each of those four students holding a kicking shield.
  • The students holding the kicking shields are going to be the “bullies”. Their job is to keep the student in the middle from escaping the ring.
  • The student in the middle’s job is to get out of the ring in under 30 seconds.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Move Fast.
  • Keep your eyes open.
  • Don’t get stuck.
Step 5
  • Continue until every student has 2-3 turns.
