Description:
In this drill the students will practice blocking in four zones. This will help the students build the courage to get hit as they learn how to block properly.
Teaching SKILLZ:
Teaching SKILLZ: CHOICES – On the second round, the instructor can ask the student if they want to go slow, medium, fast, or “ninja fast”. This will motivate the students and empower them, since they had a choice in the activity at hand and will feel more in control in what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
Brain SKILLZ: WORKING MEMORY – The student must remember the moves they have to do, and what numbers they are associated with. This works on their ability to hold onto information while doing a task.
Step 1
Divide your class into even lines with no more than six students per line. For each line you will need an instructor holding a foam sword.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
1 – Left head block 2 – Right head block 3 – Left rib block 4 – Right rib block
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will call out random blocking zones.
  • You will try and block before the instructor hits you in that zone.
  • At the end of the drill you have to do three push-ups for each time you got hit.
  • Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • build the courage to get hit as they learn how to block properly.
  • Step 5
  • Continue until each person in line has at least three turns.
