Skill: Courage
Drill: Call the Colors
Equipment needed: 1 Kicking Shield per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good COURAGE as they demonstrate their ability to stand up in front in front of their friends and count with different categories without being silly.
Teaching SKILLZ:
Teaching SKILLZ: NEUROBICS – The instructor can switch up the drill, and instead of having them call out colors, switch the category on the second round. This can be animals, foods, candy, movies, or another age-appropriate category. This will keep the students engaged, as well as help connect the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
Brain SKILLZ:
Brain SKILLZ: LONG TERM MEMORY – The students must be able to recall things from a specific category while they do their punches. This works on their semantic long-term memory, as they are recalling information that they have learned in the past, like colors, and not things they remember doing.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the students sitting with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Have the 1st student in line stand up and face the instructor.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the students will start to do punches on the kicking shield.
  • But they must count using colors instead of numbers, once they call out 10 colors they can run back to their line.
  • This will work on the students ability to talk in front of a group of their peers.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Be as loud as you can.
  • Hit the instructor as hard as you can.
  • Hands up as you throw your techniques.
Step 5
  • Continue until each person has 2-3 turns.
