Skill: Courage
Drill: Beat the Bully
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on their courage by defending themselves without flinching. This will also help develop confidence and timing.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – On the second round, the instructor can ask the student if they want to go slow, medium, fast, or “ninja fast”. This will motivate the students and empower them, since they had a choice in the activity at hand and will feel more in control in what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must be able to react quickly when the instructor grabs their shoulders, and do the correct defense. This works on their ability to make the correct choices quickly and accurately as they have to do the correct steps as fast as they can to get away from the bully.
Step 1
Divide the class into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need one instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will pretend to push the student as if he/she were a bully.
  • The student will touch their palms together and raise them straight up, deflecting the push.
  • Then push the bully away saying “stay back”
  • They must do this 3 times without flinching.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your hands together as you raise them up.
  • Push the bully back hard.
  • Yell “stay back!” really loud.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has at least three turns.
